2018 Alumni Scholarship Recipients

This year, OFSAA’s Alumni Scholarship Association is awarding two $500 scholarships to deserving students from this year’s eligible Associations.  (CISAA, GHAC, NCSSAA & NWOSSAA). The Alumni Scholarship Association Selection Committee is pleased to announce that Sarah Martin from Redeemer Christian HS in Ottawa (NCSSAA) and Ben Zwolak from Cardinal Newman CSS in Stoney Creek (GHAC)  are this year’s recipients.

Sarah is a grade 12 student and is a six-sport athlete at Redeemer Christian who participated in  basketball, volleyball, golf, badminton, soccer and track & field during her high school career. She was also heavily involved in Student Council, Intramurals, Chapel and Girls’ Bible Study Activities as well as community events like the Metro Hoops Basketball Camp and the Ugandan Mile Fundraising campaign that raised $20000 for homeless boys’ this year alone. In her personal statement Sarah stated that “it has been through the support of my dedicated parents, teachers and friends that I have been able to achieve so much and receiving this award would be for them too.”  Sarah is an 85% + student as well and will be studying Nursing at the University of Ottawa in the fall. Also a grade 12 student at Cardinal Newman, Ben is an excellent student as well, achieving an 87% average in his Grade 12 courses.  Ben will be studying Education at McGill University in the fall and will be a welcome addition to the teaching profession when he is done.  A five-sport athlete who played football, basketball, touch football, baseball and badminton, Ben used his significant organizational skills to be involved in many community related events as well. Activities like Newman feeder school basketball, Special Olympics, OFSAA Soccer, and Newman Youth Basketball, are just a few of the many volunteer roles that Ben undertook during his time at Cardinal Newman. During both the 2016 and 2017 school years, Ben was also part of a group that travelled to the Dominican Republic to build homes for citizens in need. Please see Ben’s photo below.
