OFSAA Has Partnered with KidSport Ontario to Help High School Students Play Sports.
OFSAA and KidSport have partnered to help high school students in Ontario overcome financial barriers that are restricting their participation in school sports. A total of $15,000 will be distributed to student-athletes in 2017-18, with a maximum of $250 to a single student in the school year.
Applications and Criteria
Students may apply to receive financial assistance to enable them to participate on an interschool sports team. An application form will be used, which must be accompanied by an endorsement letter from a school official (administrator, athletic director, or guidance counselor), confirming financial need.
For 2017-18, $5,000 will be allocated to each of the fall, winter, and spring season sports, for a total of $15,000. Funds will be spent on a first come, first served basis, meaning applications will not be accepted in a season, once $5,000 in funds have been distributed.
A student may apply as many times as they wish, however they may only receive a maximum of $250 in the school year. Once approved for funding, a school official must confirm the student is participating in the sport before funding is released. Cheques will be mailed to the student, but payable to the school. A letter will accompany the cheque.
An adjudication committee, involving both KidSport representatives and OFSAA representatives, will screen applications. The committee will meet on a bi-monthly basis.
Grant Application Guidelines
Please read through all KidSport/OFSAA grant guidelines first before beginning the grant application.
How do KidSport and OFSAA determine grant eligibility?
KidSport and OFSAA consider the social and economic barriers facing the student’s family as identified by the applicant’s endorser and the impact the grant will have on the individual.
What is covered under KidSport/OFSAA funding?
The KidSport/OFSAA grant covers up to $250 per student, per school year, to go towards the general sports fees to participate in school sport and costs to the student related to local competition only. Funding will be available until all funds have been expended
What sports are covered by KidSport/OFSAA funding?
The KidSport Ontario/OFSAA grant covers all interschool sport teams throughout the school year.
What ages are covered by the KidSport/OFSAA grant?

What is the deadline for applications?
Deadlines for receipt of applications for each sport season are: Fall – October 31, Winter – January 31, Spring – April 30. Funds are available on a first come, first served basis, however the total funds available will be split equally between thethree seasons.
What are the funding arrangements?
Approved applicants will receive a cheque made out to their school that is to be used to cover the fees associated with their team. No cheques will be made out directly to the applicants, so families should not expect to be reimbursed for any fees that they have paid.
What if I want to play more than one sport over the course of the school year?
Applicants will receive up to a maximum of $250 over the course of their school year and may apply for support for multiple teams until that maximum is reached, or all of the KidSport/OFSAA funds have been disbursed.
