OFSAA’s Alumni Scholarship Association Selection Committee is pleased to announce the awarding of three, $800 scholarships this year. Students were selected from the following group of eligible Associations: SOSSA, ROPSSAA, EOSSAA, TDSSAA, LOSSA, & WOSSAA. This year’s winners are: Camryn Roy from McKinnon Park SS (SOSSA), Kanika Tibriwal of St. Francis Xavier SS (ROPSSAA) and Trace Carter from Eastdale CVI (LOSSA).

Trace Carter is a grade 12 student who participated in rugby, curling and wrestling while at Eastdale. He also had multi-year involvement with Eastdale’s Athletic Council, the Instrumental Band and the Tech Crew. His community involvement included working at St. Vincent De Paul, coaching with the Team Impact Wrestling team, participating in the organization of the Eastdale Craft Show and taking part in the L.I.F.E. Rally in Oshawa. In his personal statement, Trace stated that “as an athlete during my time as a high school student, I have been able to experience many things that I would never have been able to otherwise and sports enriched my high school experience.” Trace maintained a 90% + average as well and will be studying Electronics Engineering Technology at Durham College in the fall.

Kanika Tibriwal is a grade 12 student at St. Francis Xavier SS. Kanika was involved in numerous sports at the school including cross country, flag football, soccer, track and field and rugby, while at the same time, maintaining an average of 97% over the past two years. She was also involved in numerous school activities like Duke of Edinburgh and held leadership positions in various initiatives that helped her fellow students. Kanika was also heavily invested in her community and was a volunteer at Humber River Hospital and founded her own multi-media company that focussed on small businesses in the GTA.  In her letter to the committee, Kanika emphasized how being involved in high school sports has “fostered my discipline, tested my resilience, and given me my closest friends.” Her soccer coach at the  school emphasized that her “biggest contribution is that she is a team player who shines both on the field and in the classroom.”  In the fall, Kanika will be studying Medical Sciences at Western University.

Camryn Roy is a grade 12 student at McKinnon Park SS.  Another outstanding student-athlete with an average of over 95%, Camryn participated in five different sports during her high school career. Being involved in basketball, field hockey, soccer, hockey and track clearly illustrate how organized and dedicated Camryn was towards both her studies and athletics. In addition, Camryn was a member of the school’s student council for three years and filled the role of Social Coordinator in 2019-20. Her community involvement included volunteering in the Terry Fox Run, Relay for Life and as a power skating coach with a community group.  In her letter to the committee, Camryn emphasized that being a part of sports teams “has allowed me to understand the importance of having a healthy escape, and not allowing school to constantly consume my thoughts”.  One of her coaches noted that “Camryn is a dedicated player and her hard work inspires other players to be their best.”  In the fall, Camryn will be studying Business at Brock University.
