The Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) Coaching Excellence Awards aim to recognize the outstanding achievements and significant contributions coaches have made to both their sport and athletes in Ontario. The selection of recipients (one male, one female) is based on their unique contribution to sport through continuous development. The awards do not reflect the accomplishments of a coach in any one year; rather the award is designed to recognize the contributions a coach has made over a lengthy period of time.

OFSAA is responsible for the selection of a male and female coach in the School Sport category. The award is open to active teachers coaches with a minimum of five years coaching experience. Nominated coaches must have coached two or more sports in a school year over the period of five years.  The nominated coach must have influenced the development of new coaches and have shown evidence of program building as well as encouraging athletes to give back to sports. In addition, their coaching style has proven to be ethical while demonstrating sportsmanship and positive game behaviour.

The award ceremony marked the start of National Coaches Week (September 23-30), a week-long celebration of the tremendous positive impact coaches have on our athletes and communities.
